Common Bond Welcomes New Custom Cake Designer Sarah Ono Jones
In keeping with our promise to offer Houston the world’s best pastries and cakes, Common Bond is thrilled to welcome to our family Sarah Ono Jones, a nationally acclaimed and truly remarkable custom cake designer!
Sarah Ono Jones, mother of four, discovered her love of sculpting as a teenager. Clay was her medium of choice. But that passion was put away while she served in the U.S. Army, was married and had children.
It was reawakened after she attended a cake decorating class which was gifted to her for Mother's Day by her husband Julian. It didn't take long for Sarah to apply her clay sculpting skills to the edible medium of cake and fondant. Since that time she has become well known in the cake sculpting industry both locally and nationally as one of the top in her field. Halloween-themed cakes are her specialty but she enjoys creating all types of cakes for any occasion.
She first entered her work in a Nashville, TN fair where she delighted in watching the state fair judges measure her creations, including a two-headed monster, against other competitors classic styles of cake decoration. She won numerous titles in that fair's competition as well as placing in Knoxville's annual Great Cake Bake, a fundraiser for Dolly Parton's Imagination Library.
In 2013, Food Network came calling and she joined a team of 2 other respective artists on the annual Halloween Wars television competition series. Her team won the grand prize of $50,000. Following her win on Halloween Wars, Jones took a position as the lead custom cake decorator at Magpies Bakery, where she had many of her cakes appear in Southern Living Magazine and Martha Stewart Weddings Magazine.
She has now joined the Common Bond family and is excited to be decorating in a big city with such a diverse population. She brings with her a desire to help design your custom wedding cake, birthday cake or special occasion cake to make your day truly unforgettable.
